Benedictine Hospital Powerhouse Stack
Kingston, Ulster County, New York
Restoration of Radial Brick Chimney, Installation of Steel Bands.
The Benedictine Stack project involved rigging the stack to access areas of repair, the crown of the stack was removed, and a new re-enforced concrete cap was formed and poured. Deteriorated masonry joints were chipped out and tuck pointed with fresh masonry cement, and cracked and spalled brick were replaced. New steel tension bands were added along with vertical steel strapping to tie the bands together and give vertical structural integrity, and a fresh coat of paint to all the re-enforcing steel.
